TRADE ALERT: THREE TRADES PROCESS IN HECTIC EVENING
The hot stove is lit after a historic evening of trades.
In a span of two and a half hours, three trades processed involving a total of four different teams as the hot stove caught fire this evening.
TRADE 1: ELLY ENCHANTED trades Bobby Miller to BIG DESANTIS ENERGY for 8th round draft pick and Junior Caminero.
TRADE 2: ELLY ENCHANTED trades Walker Buehler to PICKLE THE BEAST for MINOR LEAGUE 2nd round draft pick.
TRADE 3: BIG DESANTIS ENERGY trades Evan Carter and Justin Steele to CASHMAN CASH OUTS for a 10th round pick.
Trade 1 was briefly held in limbo while Commissioner Patrick Weaver sought clarification on minor league draft pick rules related to the new proposal recently implemented, but after a short spell the trade processed without issue.
Trade 2 involves the historic first time a minor league draft pick has been traded.
Initial statements from owners reflected varying priorities. Swindell reflected, “Pitching was a growing concern as we approached draft day. This trade not only addressed that concern, but added a valuable young arm to our roster for years to come,”
Heller, by contrast, said, “Honestly I liked having Buehler back on my team but didn’t want to risk a middle draft pick. Richard mentioned a minor league pick and we decided to make history,”
Martindell’s tactics this off-season reflect a growing strategy to amass draft picks and young talent at the expense of higher risk big names. He admitted as much, saying, “This was another deal I didn’t expect to trade who I traded. I had Miller as one of my keeper locks, same as Glasnow. But the chance to get another draft pick and a speculative add of Caminero is enough to convince me otherwise,”
Expect continuing coverage of these bombshell deals in a special edition of GRADE THE TRADE, coming soon.
